Super Bowl LII: To Bet or Not To Bet
Posted by Allison Cianci on 3rd Feb 2018
Last year approx. 111 million people tuned in to watch the Patriots vs the Falcons in Super Bowl LI. And while, yes, a bunch of those people watched because they love football, you can't forget about the people watching for the commercials, half time show, men running around in tight pants, aaaand the gambling. Some people put a little (or way more than a little) money down on the team they think will take home the trophy -- which is obviously common for all sporting events. What I didn't realize was that the winner isn't all people are betting on. It gets way more detailed than that.
Do you have a gut feeling on what color shirt Bill Belichick, head coach for the Pats, will be wearing? 10/1 says white. What about the number of tweets the president will tweet during the game? Yup -- over or under 5. And we can't forget about how many times Giselle Bundchen gets screen time during the game.
From Pink's hair color to Justin Timberlake's shoes, you could really go crazy trying to figure out how the day will play out to try and make some extra cash.
So if you have some extra money lying around, how are you supposed to decide?
You could just play the guessing game, pick a few categories with good odds and do eeny meeny miny moe. You might get lucky...hopefully at least break even.
Or you can dig into some of the stats and info available online, and possible beat the odds. We know the Patriots and Eagles both are 15-3 going into the game but the Pats have Brady and 5 previous Super Bowl wins under their belt. Plus there's the whole Eagles Curse which superstitious fans will have to worry about. All this leads to the Patriots being the favorite to win and the safest place to put your money.
But this year could be the Eagles year! And with the odds against them, you could win big.
Last year, Luke Bryan took just over 2 minutes to sing the National Anthem, same with Lady Gaga the year before. So unless you think Pink will choose to speed it up, you might want to try you luck there.
The list of odds really does go on and on, so if you're interested, check out this link for all the tiny details the country is betting on during Super Bowl LII.
